Book launch: From Clans to Co-ops

Welcome to the launch of Theo Rakopoulos’s new book “From Clans to Co-ops: Confiscated Mafia Land in Sicily”! The launch takes place at Scene HumSam in Georg Sverdrups hus.

Theo has done fieldwork on anti-mafia cooperatives that work on land that has been confiscated from the mafia in rural Sicily. His book is an ethnography of a mafia-influenced village and examines social relations in and around Sicilian Cooperatives. 

Program
- Thomas Hylland Eriksen, professor at the Social Anthropology Department at UiO, will chair the event, and open the discussion. 

The participants are:
- Sharryn Kasmir, professor at Hofstra University.
- Keith Hart, International Director of the Human Economy Programme.
- Theo Rakopoulos, associate professor at the Social Anthropology Department, UiO.

The panel discussion will be followed by a Q&A-session. 

The discussion will centre on the book's contributions on the anthropology of cooperatives, as well as that of labour, land management and moralities. It will also develop considerations about economic anthropology's current debates, and how the book's ethnographic premise contributes to those.
